Join us for the 15th annual Wairoa Maori Film Festival, to be held at the Gaiety Theatre. Wairoa, and Taihoa Marae, Wairoa from Friday, October 23 to Monday, October 26. Founded in 2005, the Wairoa Māori Film Festival is the longest running Māori and indigenous film festival in NZ. The festival occurs every Queen's Birthday weekend on the East Coast of the North Island, at Kahungunu Marae in Nuhaka and the Gaiety Theatre in Wairoa. The festival each year is part of the living history of Māori and New Zealand cinema.
In 2020. we are on Labour weekend and are foregoing Kahungunu Marae due to Covid-19 restrictions, and will be presenting a four day weekend of films at the Gaiety Theatre in Wairoa. Our full festival programme is now online. Program details HERE.
