Short Film, Big Apple: Hawaiian Film Premiering at Tribeca Film Festival - KITV

By TJ Horgan - KITV

Hinaleimoana Wong-Kalu's animated short "Kapaemahu" will premiere in New York City at the Tribeca Film Festival in April.

"Kapaemahu" is a story about the hidden history of four mysterious boulders on Waikiki Beach, and the legendary spirits within them.

Saying the Kapaemahu rocks in Waikiki represent significant Mahu history on O'ahu is just scratching the surface of what this roughly seven-minute, animated short covers.

"We pacific island people have an understanding of both male and female, masculine and feminine," Kumu Hina explained.

"In telling this story I hope that people will understand that what some people call legends are actually elements of our history," Kumu Hina told KITV4.

Dean Hamer and Joe Wilson produced and directed the film with Kumu Hina.
